CENNI BIOGRAFICI
Nico Taminto, sesto di sette figli, nasce a Gragnano, in provincia di Napoli, nel 1949. Dotato di una predisposizione naturale alla pittura, fin da bambino mostra le sue qualità artistiche. Dopo le scuole medie, si iscrive all’Istituto d’Arte di Sorrento e successivamente all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli. Alla fine degli anni ‘80 inventa la de-pintura, una tecnica che sfrutta la scolorazione artificiale della tela jeans tramite l’uso  della candeggina (NaCIO), per creare le immagini. Con un’opera jeans, nel 1990, vince il premio “Arte Mondadori”. Qualche anno dopo inizia il  ciclo ”Caffè d’Autore”(opere dipinte con il caffè). Il Pittore non ha mai posto limiti all’uso delle tecniche che ha continuato ad inventare e  sperimentare come la pasta, il vino ecc.. Tutto ciò che la natura genera e l’uomo produce diventa sostanza nella sua arte, che nel sociale difende l’equilibrio e l’armonia.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Angelo Calabrese
BRIEF BIOGRAPHY
Nico Taminto, the sixth of seven children, was born in Gragnano, near Naples, in 1949. Blessed with an aptitude for painting, he showed artistic qualities from early childhood. After the middle school, he enrolled in the Art Institute of Sorrento, and later, in the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. At the end of the 8o’s he invented “De-painting”, a technique involving the bleaching (with NaClO) of colour from blue denim to create images. With one of these “Jeans” works he won the “Arte Mondadori” award in 1990. A few years later he began the cycle “Caffè d’Autore” (works painted in coffee). The artist knows no limits to the various techniques he invents and experiments with, using, for example, pasta and wine. All of nature’s bounty and everything that man produces becomes substance in his art, that defends social equilibrium and harmony.

LE SIRENE
  • Iniziato nel 2001 e continua tutt’oggi
  •  Vivo e lavoro a 400 metri a picco sul mare sopra li Galli, un arcipelago ubicato pochi chilometri a sud della penisola sorrentina e costituito da tre isole: Gallo Lungo, La Rotonda e Dei Briganti a nord della Rotonda dov’è nato il mito delle Sirene e da dove partì Partenope per approdare definitivamente a Neapolis. Negli ultimi anni della sua vita vi è vissuto Rudolf Nureyev. Mi sono lasciato contaminare dalla cultura infinita che ha attraversata tutta la mia Penisola. Per me è stato inevitabile.

  • ​THE SIRENS
  • ​Started in 2001 and still in progress
  •  I live and work 400 m above the sea, overlooking the three Galli islands (Gallo Lungo, La Rotonda and Dei Briganti) that lie just off the Sorrento Peninsula. The legend of the Sirens has its origins on Gallo Lungo, from where the Siren Partenope departed for Neapolis. Rudolf Nureyev spent the last years of his life here. I let myself be swept up and mesmerized by the infinite culture that pervades my peninsula. For me it was inevitable.

La DE-PINTURA
Nel 1987 nasce la De-pintura (decolorazione della tela blu jeans con l’uso della candeggina-NaCIO) con i primi esperimenti tecnici su l’opera di Caravaggio. Per la prima volta, nella storia della pittura, si dipinge senza colori, anzi eliminandoli. Da questo momento si dipinge con “la luce”.

​DE-PAINTING
In 1987 he develops De-painting (using bleach - NaClO - to remove the colour from blue denim) and experiments with works after Caravaggio. For the first time in history, pictures are painted without the use of colour, in fact, by eliminating colour. Paintings emerge with “the light”.

  3. ​Non mi sono mai limitato a sperimentare modi e materiali per esprimermi.Anche quando, in alcuni casi, ho usato i prodotti che hanno reso famosa la mia terra d’origine come il vino e la pasta. Pur sapendo di realizzare qualcosa che, prima o poi deperiva, lo facevo lo stesso perché dovevo liberare la mia mente per fare spazio ad altre pazzie.

  5. I know no limits to the methods and materials that I experiment with to express myself. I have sometimes used products such as wine and pasta that made my home-land famous. Even though I knew I was creating something that, sooner or later, would deteriorate, I nevertheless did it, because I had to free my mind to make space for other crazy ideas.

Iniziato nel 2017 e continua tutt’oggi
 
Con questo ciclo pittorico intendo proiettare i grandi artisti del passato nella nostra epoca contemporanea: da Raffaello a Leonardo, da Caravaggio a Rubens, da Van Gogh a Picasso. I loro autoritratti diventeranno dei “selfie” immersi tra le rappresentazioni e i colori delle loro opere.

With this painting cycle I intend to project the great masters of the past into our times: from Raffaello to Leonardo, from Caravaggio to Rubens, from Van Gogh to Picasso. Their self-portraits will become “selfies” immersed in the images and colours of their works.
